Video: How to Use the NAV SEAL Health Check

This video takes you step by step through using the NAV SEAL Health Check in Business Central, from installing the extension to sharing a finished report. Follow along in your own sandbox, or use the quick reference below the video to find a specific step.

Notes
Before You Start

To follow along, you'll need a Business Central online sandbox environment on version 28 or later. A recent copy of production gives the most useful results. You'll also need the NAV SEAL Health Check .app file and a user who can install extensions and assign permissions.

The Health Check only reads data and won't run in a production environment, so you can safely try every step shown in the video.

Notes
Quick Reference

1. Install the extension.
Search for Extension Management, choose Manage, then Upload Extension, and select the .app file. Accept the terms and choose Deploy. Wait until the status shows Completed.

2. Assign permissions.
Open Users, select the user who will run the scan, and add the NSHC HEALTH CHECK permission set. The user also needs D365 BASIC or the delegated admin role.

3. Switch to the Health Check role (optional).
Choose My Settings and set Role to NAV SEAL Health Check. This gives you a home page with tiles for every common task.

4. Run a scan.
Choose Run Scan. Leave Company Filter blank to scan all companies, or enter one or more companies, for example Company A|Company B. Choose See what the scan checks if you want to preview the checks, then choose OK. A progress window shows which check is running.

5. Review the scan run.
When the scan finishes, the scan run opens. Check the status. Completed means every check ran. Completed with Errors means one or more checks couldn't finish, usually because of a missing permission, and the details appear as Info findings.

6. Work through the findings.
Choose Open Findings and start with the Medium and High view. Open a finding to see what was checked, the result, up to 10 example records, and the recommendation. Choose a record line or Open Record to go straight to the record in Business Central.

7. Prepare the findings for the report.
On each finding, adjust the Severity if the business impact is higher or lower than suggested. Add a Consultant Note with context or an agreed action. Clear Include in Report for findings that don't apply to your company. Use the Included in Report view to check what will be shared.

8. Share the results.
Choose Print Report to create the findings report, and use Send to to save it as PDF or Word. Choose Export to Excel for a workbook with Summary, Findings, and Checks sheets.

9. Clean up.
When you're done, choose Delete All Scan Data on the Scan Runs page, or simply delete the sandbox if it was a temporary copy.

Tips

Start with the High findings. They're the ones that stop postings or make figures wrong, so they usually give the fastest return. On large databases, a scan can take longer. Use the company filter to scan fewer companies at a time, or run the scan outside business hours. If a record doesn't open from a finding, switch to the company named in the message, or run a new scan if the record has changed since the last one.
