Login into Azure Portal and search for “Application Insights”:
Click on “Application Insights” and the following view will open:
Click on “Create”.
In the following screen, select the Subscription you want to associate
the Application Insight with and then click on “Create New” next to “Resource Group”:
ATTENTION!!! These next steps will require a restart of the environment chosen, so if it is a Production Environment, we recommend doing this Outside of Business Hours.
Now open a new tab in your browser and navigate to the “Business Central Admin Center”:
Select the environment (Ex. Production):
Now click on the “Define” link near “Application Insights Connection String” as shown in the screenshot:
Toggle the “Enable Application Insight”, paste the Connection String
copied from Azure in the Connection String Field, and click Save:
The environment will be restarted when “Save” is clicked.
To limit the data being collected and avoid unexpected costs, follow these steps.
Log in Azure Portal and navigate to the Application Insight we want to limit. Once there find the “Usage and estimated costs” tab in the left menu:
The following screen will show and from there select “Daily cap”:
From here it is possible to limit the daily data that is being recorded. The
first 5GB/month are free so to stay within that limit it is possible to set a
daily cap og 0.16GB/day limit. It is also possible to choose to send an alert
when the cap reaches a certain percentage (ex. 90%).
When done click “OK” to save the changes.
