How to Set Up a DocuSign Template

How to Set Up a DocuSign Template

  1. Turn on Templates Active on the DocuSign Administration page.
  2. Build the template in DocuSign — create it, add a role for each signer/recipient, place signature and other fields, and give any auto-filled field a clear Data Label.
  3. Run Sync Templates to pull the template into Business Central.
  4. Run Sync Roles (from the template) to pull in its roles, fields, and any dropdown/list options. Re-run this any time the template changes in DocuSign.
  5. Map fields on Tab Mappings: choose BC Field (auto-filled from the source document), User Input (typed in when sending), or Leave for Signer (left blank for the recipient to complete). Mark a field Locked to prevent recipients editing a BC Field value.
  6. Assign the template to document types on Doc Type Template Setup, marking one line Default per document type. If the template has more than one role, also mark a Default role.

Info
Tip: keep a template dedicated to one document type — or a group that shares the same underlying table — since field mappings apply to the whole template, not one specific document type.
